Yes, we are finally doing it! Taking several months off to take the whole family travelling around Europe in a campervan. Okay, so timing with jobs and school means that we are not going at the ideal time weatherwise, but hopefully it will be less crowded and less costly.
We're heading off in mid August 2007, spending the first month with only the two younger children in tow (Liam - 9 and Breanna - 7), with the two older boys completing their third school term before joining us in Manchester, UK. Chris (15) is spending that 5 weeks having a completely different adventure of his own. James (13) is staying with a friend for 3 weeks and then heading off to school camp at Yarra Junction (Caulfield Grammar School) before meeting up with his brother and flying all the way to Manchester by themselves. There we meet up with my brother Grant and his family, spend a few days together, then head off to Amsterdam to pick up the campervan which will be our home through more than 10 countries and the depths of winter, until January 21st where we will (no doubt reluctantly), head for home and warm weather in Melbourne, Australia.
The flights are tentatively booked, the campervan research has been done, but not yet confirmed, the housesitter is organised, and now just to get all that work done before we go.
Any suggestions for maintaining sanity while cooped up in a campervan in the middle of a European winter are welcomed!
We'll keep you posted...
Newsflash - a "permanent" move to Northern Rivers
The Gatt family have moved back up to Dunoon in late January 2010. Phone number is 0266895902. Mobile phones are Bronwen 0439 842237 and Rob 0428 884222. We are working (not a holiday this time!), but we welcome visitors any time, so feel free to come and stay with us to visit the beautiful Byron Bay hinterland. Check the calendar on the right to make sure we are here, and to see whether we have other visitors at the same time!
